Happy Friday! Time to wrap up this week and get ready for the next! Take a deep breath and kick off the weekend on a positive note. Let's consider where we have been, improve it, and move forward next week. Packing the most content into the least words and trying to change the world,

3 - Wine Terms - Regarding Barrels
1.
Staves:
The wooden slats that form the sides of a barrel. The metal rings, called hoops, compress the edges of the staves together to form a watertight fit without the used of any type of caulk or sealant.
2.
Bung
: A cylindrical stopper used to plug the "bung hole" in the side of a barrel to prevent leakage. Often made of silicone or wood.
3.
Chime:
An interior grove cut into the staves one either end of a barrel which forms a tight fit with the barrel "head" (the flat disk at the ends of a barrel). Quick fact, some coopers (barrel makers) use a wheat paste in the chime to help prevent leakage making the barrel not gluten free.
