3 - Wine Terms - Health Benefits?

As a winery we are not allowed to promote health claims about wine and the scientist have been fiercely debating befits/risk/detriments of wine for eons. You can be the judge, but here are the facts about wine.
  1. Fat Free: There are no natural fats in wine - it call comes from the cheese and crackers.
  2. Antioxidants: The tannins in red wine are packed with antioxidants that some professionals suggest that they improve physical performance, heart function and muscle strength in lab models.
  3. No Cholesterol: Neither beer or wine contain natural cholesterol, however the carbohydrates in beer combined with alcohol increase your triglyceride levels; hence making wine a better choice.

Geek Zone: - Hearth Health?

Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the US and while the scientists debate the best way to tackle this problem there are small things to improve your health - eat better, sleep better, laugh more, socialize more. A great place to laugh and socialize is at Koi Zen Cellars, grab your friends and we would love to see your smiling face.

2 - Quotes from Me:

1. "Dreaming and doing are very different; one produces results, the other doesn't" ~ The Zen Winemaker

2. "Wine in a bottle on the shelf does not taste as good as wine in the glass" ~ The Zen Winemaker

1 - Question to ponder:

Formal Mediation

Over the last few weeks, have presented tricks and techniques about being present and living in the moment. I hope that you have tried some of these and found success. To end this series on Meditation, I want to talk briefly on formal meditation.

Traditionally, formal meditation is done either sitting cross legged on the ground or in a chair. Almost every day for the last 5+ years, I have meditated for 20 minutes often next to the pond. While the benefits are numerous, the  one I want to talk about is developing clarity. Clarity involves improved focus, concentration and understanding of myself: who I am and what I think (literally) Many people experience "monkey mind" with myriad voices chatting away - clarity diminishes that noise and clears the mind allowing one to focus, unwind and relax. Blood pressure decreases, breathing efficiency increases and stress melts away.

There are many apps that you can use to learn meditation techniques, I personally like the free version of Insight Timer which offers both guided and unguided meditation. You can easily find focused meditations to address specific concerns such as stress, anxiety, negativity, motivation, relaxation, or increased focus. I encourage you to give it a try - an honest try - any yes, you can find the time.

If you claim you don't have time - then your really need it.

Question : If you don't take care of your brain - who will?

Something to ponder:

If you shared this newsletter with 2 people, who then each share with two people, how many times would this need to be done to reach every human on earth? Answer
